Arizona Daily Star, The (Tucson, AZ) - February 6, 2006 Deceased Name: FLAX, BURTON S. born to Sarah and George Flax on February 15, 1924 in Virginia, MN, died February 5, 2006. He was preceded in death by his parents and loving son, Kenneth Jon. Survived by his wife, Betty; sons, Marc (Cindy), Robert (friend Nancy); brother Jack (Sally), sisters, Beverly Shiff, Lorraine Anders and many loving cousins in the United States and Israel and many loving nieces and nephews. He also leaves brothers-in-law, Kent (Patricia) Barker and Bruce (friend Vera); five stepsons, Tim (Barbara) Ilse, David (Sherokee) Ilse, Donald (Joyce) Ilse, Lee (Debbie) Ilse and Ken (Roxanne) Ilse; 13 step grandchildren and former wife, Donna Flax. Burton was past president and chairman of the board of directors of B'nai B'rith Sahuaro Lodge 763, and is a member of Jewish War Veterans. He volunteered for World War II service in February 1942. As part of the Army Air Force, he served 10 months during and after the conflict on Iwo Jima with Radar Team 14 bringing in B29 aircraft that would have otherwise crashed or been forced to bail out due to bad weather. Shiva will not be observed. A graveside service will be held 1000 a.m., Friday in the B'nai B'rith section of EVERGREEN CEMETERY N. Oracle & W. Miracle Mile. Respects may be paid to the family from 100-300 p.m., Friday at the family residence following the service. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are requested to the International Myeloma Foundation, 12650 Riverside Drive, Ste. 206, N.
